My understanding of Christ’s suffering was challenged by my figure painting professor, Bruce Herman, when I told him of my plan to do a rendering of Christ on the cross. After being asked to consider the crushing weight that this event entailed, I knew I would have to find a different angle. Consequently, I decided to portray the image of Christ’s suffering from birds’ eye view, insinuating the physical pressure under which Jesus suffered for us.
